Thanks to the generosity of entrepreneur Syed Sarwat, the Urdu Academy of North America held on May 8, 2012 an awe-inspiring evening that included music, poetry and satire.
At the outset, Tashie Zaheer, President of the Urdu Academy invited Syed Ilyas Ahmed, a visiting entertainer to amuse the audience with his satiric prose and poetry presentations sparkled with humorous anecdotes and stories. Syed Ilyas Ahmed, a health industry executive, was visiting SF Bay Area and this was his third performance during his current visit.
Attracting laughter through funny stories may not be considered a unique a rt but Syed Ilyas Ahmed also drew wide applause with his unique style of prose and poetry presentations. It is said that a good humor is a great vehicle for getting a message across. Syed Ilyas Ahmed successfully tried to convey his insightful and intuitive message on the critical current political and social issues.
After Syed Ilyas Ahmed's thrilling one hour performance, the musical session of the program began. Syed Sarwat has a multi-faceted personality. He is not only a successful entrepreneur but also a very good singer. For more than an hour Syed Sarwat entertained the audience with his melodious ghazal singing and drew wide applause.
Almas Hamid, a popular SF Bay Area singer followed Syed Sarwat's ghazal presentations. Almas captivated the audience with her presentations of popular songs, particularly Geeta Datt's songs.
The Urdu Academy's musical evening was on its climax when the organizers decided to end the program since the next day was a working day for many of the attendees.
As usual, a sumptuous dinner was served by the Chandni Restaurant. Tashie Zaheer thanked all the guests and particularly Syed Sarwat and Mrs. Munza Sarwat for making this event successful.
